Q: Is this free?  What's the catch?
A: There is no catch.  We are paid by Con Edison for the energy savings of replacing your old bulbs.  Through this program Con Edison saves by not having to invest millions in new power plants and infrastructure upgrades and in the process you save money on your electric bill.  It also helps Con Edison prevent blackouts.
Q: What makes me "Eligible/Not Eligible"?
A: Eligibility is determined by the electric network you are in.  We are currently in the Woodrow electric network.  It is importment for you to sign up so we may submit your address for verification.  It is not uncommon for your neighbor to be in the network while you may not be in the network.
Q: After the guarantee for the year is up and my light goes out, can I buy these on my own at any retail store?
A: We provide a reorder form to purchase bulbs at a discount.  Currently retail stores do not offer the replacement bulbs we carry.

Q: Can you drop off or can I pick up the lightbulbs and install them myself?
A: Our technicians are required under the program to install the bulbs.  It is to maximize the energy savings benefits to you while maintaining your illumination needs.  Con Edison also needs to know where the bulbs are installed.

Q: Do you change all the lightbulbs?
A: We want to change as many bulbs to save you energy.  We change bulbs used at least 1 hour a day between 6pm and 10pm during the summer weekdays. Our technicians are trained to concentrate on changing the bulbs used most often to maximize savings while following the guidelines.
Q: Do you replace outdoor lightbulbs?
A: Yes!!  Those are bulbs that tend to be on all night and waste a lot of energy.

Q: How much money will I save on my bill?
A: You will save money on your bill.  The amount depends on how much you use your lights.  Each lightbulb we install uses up to 75% less electricity than your existing incandescent bulbs.

Q: When does this program end?
A:  We will be working on Staten Island for the next five years, but we will be in the Woodrow and Willowbrook areas for this year only.  Please call and sign up so not to miss your opportunity on receiving your free bulbs.

Q: Do you also do the other boroughs?
A:  Currently we do not have any projects in the other boroughs.  We will update this site when we do.  Stay tuned!!

Q: What do you do with my old lightbulbs?

A: We have to take them with us so Con Edison can verify that we actually removed your old bulbs from your home.

Q: How is the illumination on your lightbulbs?

A: We have most of your illumination needs.  The illumination of our bulbs is comparable to your incandescent bulbs illumination.  Our technicians can install our lights and remove any of them if you do not like the illumination during their visit only.

Q: Can you come back and remove all the lightbulbs after your install?

A:  Our technicians want you to be with them as they change your bulbs.  If during their visit, you do not like any of the bulbs just tell the technicians and they will remove the new bulb and replace it with your existing bulb.  Once the crew leaves with your old bulbs and the bulbs are verified by Con Edison, we will no longer have your old bulbs and we will be unable to replace your old bulbs.

Q: After my appointment, I forgot to have the technicians change some additional light bulbs.  Can they come back?

A:  After the crew leaves and a representative from Con Edison inspects your old bulbs, we will be unable to come back.  The only time we will come back is when a bulb we installed burns out within the first year of your appointment date so to replace the defective bulb.

Q: Do I remove my existing lightbulbs before my appointment?

A: Please leave your existing lightbulbs in place.  Our technicians need to have an idea of your illumination needs for each fixture and document what your existing wattage of each of your existing bulbs replaced.  They will gladly remove your old lightbulbs for you.

Q: Does our bulbs contain mercury?  How do I dispose of a broken bulb?

A: Breaking one of our lightbulbs appears to cause virtually no risk or harm from mercury.  An average four-foot fluorescent lamp contains 8 milligrams or about 100 times less mercury than a typically 700 milligram fever thermometer, and our compact fluorescent lights contain even less mercury.  If a light is broken, take usual precautions for collection of broken glass.  Dispose of any type of lightbulb as you would aersol cans or batteries.

Q: Do I need to make a copy of my Con Edison bill?

A: Your original bill or a copy of your bill from Con Edison is needed.  The crew needs to verify the name and address on your current Con Edison bill.  They do not need to take your bill or a copy of your bill with them. If you do not have a current Con Edison bill, please obtain a copy from Con Edison at 800-752-6633.
